Kaitaia Water
2019 - 2021
Far North District Council
The Kaitaia water supply produces and supplies safe drinking water to a permanent population of approximately 5,000 residents and 250+ non-residential connections. The Awanui River is the primary water source for Kaitaia, with the Kauri Dam providing a level of resilience to the water supply that has been generally acceptable to date. However, the duration of events where the river is flowing below the current resource consent limit is increasing and the level of resilience provided by the Kauri dam is insufficient for the longer term.
The Far North District Council undertook an options selection process to identify a preferred option for development and delivery to increase the resilience of the water supply system.
